The final of a four-volume survey and explorations in political science conducted by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, this volume focuses on the transformations occurring in the research, practice, and theories of international relations in India. Avoiding the limitations of a purely foreign policy perspective, this volume views India's engagement with the world in the realm of ideas and in terms of its expanding role in the international domain. It critically interrogates the state-centric ontology, and evaluates the changing parameters of research in the field in the past few decades. This volume discusses several key issues of international relations from the Indian perspective such as global governance, borders, Indian diplomacy, strategy, norms and peace along with the Indian civil society, and development discourse in India. It examines diverse theoretical approaches such as realism, postcolonialism, development theory, critical theory, neo-Marxism, and liberalism that have been employed to analyse these issues. It also provides a bibliographic guide, identifies the lacunae in research done in the field, and explores lines of future inquiry.
