"It is a great pleasure for us to present for the first time in Hungary a selection of works by Henri Matisse, which offers a broad overview of the French artist's œuvre. Matisse unquestionably had a significant influence on many Hungarian artists, and his series of prints (which are on display in this exhibition) was purchased very early on by the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest, in 1913....The exhibition is the result of a collaborative endeavour between the Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Fine Arts, and it builds on the masterpieces which are part of the collection at the Centre Pompidou." --from Foreword, p. 11
