The purpose of the present monograph is to introduce recent developments in the theory of fluids and fluid transport to non-specialists in fields where fluids play an important role; not only physicists but chemical engineers, biologists, material scientistsand developers of computational fluid dynamics, both in academic and industrial research. The tools required are found in applied mathematics; a background in basic statistical mechanics and thermodynamics is helpful. The book progresses from thestatistical mechanics of gases to the theory of transport phenomena in fluids, providing the reader with a background in fluids and fluid transport and the necessary building blocks to solve actual problems. Many examples are shown in a step by step manner and a variety of methods are described in detail for simple models. New methods and applications are presented, in particular in the field of fluid transport in micro and nanoporous materials.
