Excerpt from The Black Top Spanish Merino Sheep Register, 1888, Vol. 2 Fifth.-that any man or class of men who at stated intervals through the medium of the press, proclaim peace be still to the farmer and and wool grower, saying you are better paid now for your wool as a product of your farm than those who were in the same business forty years ago, when wool sold for twenty eight cents, and the average clip of the county was not over three pounds to the sheep. But for a moment consider the cost of bran, grain, hay, etc., at that time. Look also, if you please, at the labor and capital that has been expended to bring the yield per head of wool to almost double what it was forty years ago, and we would judge that such men have been for all these forty years in the harness steadily pulling for free trade and fighting the enemy, namely, the farmer and wool grower.
