Author Description

The basic idea of this book is to guide along a short and direct path from the formulation of the drive problem to its solution. In addition the the main text and numerous illustration, it contains tips, comments and explanations in separate boxes. Each chapter is supplemented and explained by practical examples. General theoretical explanations have been provided only where they are considered necessary for a better understanding of the subject. Nevertheless, this is still a technical book and calculations and estimates have to be made to identify the optimum drive. The reader will therefore find out that a lot of what he has once learned in Physics classes on Mechanics and Electricity is useful in the context of drive selection as well.
