If there is one thing life has taught me, it’s to be out for one thing, myself. I have used that approach and it gave me an insane amount of wealth, total control and a life most people would die for. I took a fortune and made an even bigger fortune. It’s fun being rich. It’s nice and quiet up in my ice castle. If you don’t need anything from anyone, they don’t need anything from you. It worked, until it didn’t. Until her. Tatum Conner sashayed into my life and basically annihilated everything I thought I knew. She was strong and fierce, soft and sweet. She was everything I wasn’t. She matched my iciness with warmth and melted me to a puddle of what I had been. She had somehow managed to find the glitter in the pile of dust life had left her with. She made me want things, foreign things. Things I had never felt or wanted; to love, some hope and pure goodness. I wanted to build a life for her that would never crumble. I wanted to be what she needed me to be. The thing about wanting to be something you’re not, is the truth always shows its ugly head. The truth is a total bitch and if she calls and you don’t answer, she always comes to reckon. My truth, my hidden secrets, well they had created the cold and empty shell of a man I was.
