Such matters are not published, and application to obtain an official statement of the establish ment of the medical units has invariably been refused. The tables appended, therefore, have been prepared from personal observation of the units in the field, and must be regarded as only approximately correct, for much secrecy and reticence are maintained in connection with matters of organization. They are sufficiently accurate, however, to give a general idea of the extent and character of the field medical units of the Japanese Army.
