So thoroughly revises Ray Grover's 1980 bibliography for the series that in many ways they could be complementary. Retains only a few classic entries, and focuses heavily on the rapid and radical changes in the Pacific island country that were beginning as the ink was drying on the first edition, and on the more than 70,000 works published about it since then. Cites works on nascent Maori nationalism as well as on traditional arts and culture, the erosion of the welfare state and the commercialization of most services, the attempts to free the economy from dependence on agriculture, and other current matters. Annotations of a solid paragraph describe and briefly summarize the 972 books cited.
