Julier Mondolini runs away from Camden City, New Jersey, to escape a mother she considers a whore. She goes o France in search of her absentee father with whom she sympathizes. When she meets her soul mate Sergey, a.k.a. Coyote she mistakenly imagines he embodies the qualities she attributes to her father. A wanderer, Coyote involves her in the underworld of organized crime. They get caught in a love triangle along with a heroin addict, Slim Slinky Sally; ultimately, resulting in Coyote's death in an attempted bank robbery, Julie already pregnant by him. Realizing that her mother had prostituted herself to protect her when she still had been a child, Julie fights to protect her baby daughter and, in doing so, she kills two policemen. Caught and sentenced to thirty years in prison, she tells her story from in her cell.
