Excerpt:...shall impose a fine of ten dollars upon any person or persons refusing or neglecting to comply with the provisions of this ordinance; and an additional fine of five dollars for every day after such complaint made that such stove pipe shall continue unremoved, unless a special permission be given by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. AN ORDINANCE amendatory of au Ordinance conceining the City Cemetery, and for otlier purposes. Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Jackson, That there shall be elected by the Board, annually, a City Sexton, to hold his office one year, and until his successor be appointed. Sec. 2. Be it further ordained, That it shall be the duty of every pers; n entitled to inter in the city burying ground, to apply to the City Sexton to excavate and fill the grave, unless said person shall be the owner of the lot in the grave-yard upon which he or she proposes to inter a dead body; also, to furnish a written statement of the name, age and disease of the deceased. Sec. "2. Be it further ordained, That the Sexton shall excavate each grave for adults six feet in depth from the surface, and for a child five years old, and under, five feet. That he shall, in no case whatsoever, knowingly open any grave except by the permission of the Mayor. It shall be the duty of the Sexton to keep a registry of all interments, of the name, age, sex and disease; to report monthly to the Mayor; to be subject, in the selection of places of interment, to his direction; to keep his registry at the Mayor's office, open for inspection; to take care and charge of the city burying ground; to report any dilapidation of the fences, peculations or violations of the graves, or any injury to the tombstones, forthwith to the Mayor....
