Over a 16-year period of time, Thomas Jefferson considered selected sayings of Jesus from printed Bibles, arranged them in chronological and thematic order, and pasted together his own "wee little" book, which he entitled "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth," and which he felt presented "the most sublime and benevolent code of morals which has ever been offered to man." It was his practice to read it nightly. This "Jefferson Bible" only came to light when Jefferson's papers and books were sold to the government by his family. One hundred years ago, Congress provided funds to print a limited edition to be circulated among Senators and Assemblymen. Here is a contemporary Revised Edition that includes selected writings by Jefferson that relate to the teachings of the one he followed. "It is a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus..." --Jefferson to Charles Thomson, January 9, 1816. Portable, pocket-sized paperback volume measures 3-1/2 inches x 5-7/8 inches and has 170 pages.
