
Bolton Hall (1854-1938) American lawyer, author and activist. Working on behalf of the poor, he established the Vacant Lot Gardening Association and the Little Land League in New York City. In 1910 he deeded 68 acres in New Jersey to establish "Free Acres", an egalitarian community based on the Single Tax theories of Henry George. Hall is recognized as the father of the original back-to-the-land movement in the United States in the early 20th century.
