For hundreds of years, the Black Church has embraced the necessity of lament. It was a regular act of corporate worship and certainly was a part of individual worship. Still, where in our history, as the body of Christ in general, did we move from the practice of lament? How did we get to a place where we believed we could have holistic spirituality without lamenting? In this book, my prayer is that we will come to understand a history of lament and through this began to, once again, implement it into our weekly corporate worship encounters. Without this as a part of our experience, we deny ourselves the privilege of a more intimate and genuine relationship with God.
