Excerpt:... chapter viii. Our departure from Kambula. brought down in my last chapter, events to 1st of April. I may now speak of the death of Captain Sandham, 90th Light Infantry, who succumbed after a lingering illness, and was interred at Kambula with the usual military honours. Captain Lethbridge, of the 90th, also had to proceed down country, as his health was impaired and medical authority would not permit him to remain any longer. The following orders I copied, and in connection with my account deem them worthy of insertion: --" The officer commanding column has much pleasure in recording the approbation of the soldier-like conduct of the following non-commissioned officers and men on the 29th ult.: --"Color-Sergeant McAllan, who being wounded, after having his wounds dressed, ran out with his company and performed his duty till shot the second time, dead. "Acting-Sergeant Quigley, Royal Artillery, who exhibited great energy and zeal in working his gun in the fort, and did excellent service after his officer had been mortally wounded. "Private W. Grosvenor, 13th Light Infantry, who, when his company was ordered to retire from the cattle laagar, remained behind to assist No. 1, 331, Sergeant A. Fricker, 13th Light Infantry, who was wounded, and thus lost his life. "Private Albert Page, 13th Light Infantry, who crossed under a heavy fire from the main laagar and brought in one wounded native from the cattle laagar, receiving a distinguished conduct medal in recognition of this service." In the interim the relieving force for Ekowe had got as far as Ginghilovo on the 2nd of April and successfully routed the Zulu force (which was assembled to oppose them) with severe loss. The following telegrams were received and published: --"General desires me to congratulate you, hearin.
