
Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts has the second largest nineteenth-century folk art portrait collection in the United States. This exhibition catalogue shares what happened when the curator prompted the artist Candice Smith Corby with this question: what were the subjects of each painting either looking at or thinking about as they were painted? Smith Corby created 16 paintings, and wrote about her experience for this publication. A curatorial essay and biographical information about each exhibited portraits also included.
