Cal Leandros and his brother Niko are drawn into a deadly investigation when their client, a vampire named Seamus, is murdered, only to discover that Cal's monstrous family, the Auphe, have returned seeking vengeance. The Auphe, a race of beings that Cal and Niko barely survived encountering before, now aim to destroy everything Cal holds dear as they pursue their revenge. Cal must navigate the treacherous landscape of a nightmarish New York City, where supernatural factions vie for power and survival is a constant struggle, all while confronting the ghosts of his past and the immediate threat of his vengeful family. The narrative framework appears to be a third-person perspective following Cal and Niko's efforts to unravel the mystery and survive the onslaught.

The Cal Leandros series is known for its dark urban fantasy setting and fast-paced action, often blending supernatural elements with gritty detective work. Readers typically appreciate the dynamic between the brothers Cal and Niko, and the complex mythology the author builds around various supernatural creatures. This installment, as part of a larger arc, likely continues to explore the consequences of Cal's mixed heritage and his ongoing battles with powerful entities. The narrative is expected to deliver intense confrontations and further develop the intricate world established in previous books.
