Jack, a notorious Fable, finds himself stranded in the American heartland after a failed attempt at fame in Hollywood. His objective is to survive and perhaps find a new scheme, but he is constantly hounded by those who wish to capture him, including the Wolf, who leads a pack of hunters. The world is a place where Fables exist alongside humans, but are often feared or hunted, forcing Jack to rely on his cunning and the kindness of strangers, or other Fables, to evade capture.

This volume introduces Jack's post-Hollywood adventures, focusing on his roguish charm and the perilous situations he navigates. The narrative structure emphasizes episodic encounters, highlighting Jack's ability to talk his way out of trouble and his complex relationships with other Fables. The reception of this series often centers on its clever reimagining of classic Fables and its witty, character-driven storytelling. Readers appreciate the blend of humor, danger, and the exploration of what happens to these legendary figures when they stray from their traditional tales.
