To the City tells of the difficult journey made by Song Jiayin, a woman who tries very hard to build her dream home in the city, but after many defeats and frustrations that end in gloom, she finally concludes that the city belongs to the "city folks." Set in modern China, this honest portrayal about Song Jiayin's life and her struggle to escape the countryside and live in the city takes her from her wedding day to the day she dies, with her children continuing on to reach her dream in their own "journey to the city." About the Author Liu Qingbang was born in a village of Shenqiu County, Henan Province. As the Cultural Revolution began, he took part in the collaboration campaign of the Red Guard, staying in school until 1968, and then returning to his hometown. He became a quarryman and coal miner. By the end of 1972, he was transferred to the propaganda department of the Mine Bureau as a reporter. In 1978, he was transferred to the coal miner magazine office of the former Coal Industry Ministry in Beijing as an editor, and he joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1990.
