About the Author Liu Qingbang was born in a village of Shenqiu County, Henan Province. As the Cultural Revolution began, he took part in the collaboration campaign of the Red Guard, staying in school until 1968, and then returning to his hometown. He became a quarryman and coal miner. By the end of 1972, he was transferred to the propaganda department of the Mine Bureau as a reporter. In 1978, he was transferred to the coal miner magazine office of the former Coal Industry Ministry in Beijing as an editor, and he joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1990.
