A cataclysmic event leaves billions vanished, plunging the world into chaos and despair.

As planes fall from the sky and cities descend into anarchy, a small group of survivors must grapple with the sudden absence of their loved ones and the dawning realization that the Rapture has occurred. Rayford Steele, a commercial airline pilot, finds himself stranded and facing an increasingly terrifying new world order. He, along with others like Nicolae Carpathia and Chloe Steele, must navigate the immediate aftermath of the disappearances and confront the rise of a charismatic, yet sinister, global leader who promises order but delivers tyranny.

The 'Left Behind' series, particularly its initial volumes, resonated strongly with evangelical Christian readers, becoming a cultural phenomenon within that demographic. Its depiction of the end times, based on a specific interpretation of biblical prophecy, offered a compelling narrative framework for exploring themes of faith, salvation, and divine judgment. While critically divisive, the series achieved immense commercial success, selling millions of copies and spawning a multimedia franchise. The books are often praised for their fast-paced plot and accessible storytelling, making complex theological concepts engaging for a broad audience.
