How Is A Military Victory Turned Into The End Of War? In The Introduction I Showed That The Abundant Existing Literature On Victory Does Not Offer Direct Answers To This Question, Nor The Tools To Come To Grips With It. Accordingly, This Chapter Devises A Conceptual Framework That Addresses The Temporal Version Of The Victory Problem. It Does So By Turning To Recent Critical Work On Time And Temporality In International Relations And Adjacent Disciplines. I Examine The Link Between Victory And Time By Treating References To Victory As 'timing Indexicals': Clues That Temporal Operations Of Ordering Are Going On Behind The Scenes. This Is The Case For Both Oral And Written Narratives Of Victory, As Well As Textual And Extra-textual Victory Symbols.
