Nelson Maths for Western Australia consists of 40 units of work for each year level. Each unit of work provides material for one teaching week. The 40 units can be taught sequentially, or teachers may choose a unit of work on a weekly basis according to the needs of their class and individual programs. Each unit of work provides more activities than could be taught in one teaching week, allowing teachers to choose only those activities that suit the needs of their class. Assessment: The Teacher's Resource Books also feature a range of assessment mechanisms. Assessment Task Cards are provided to assess the skills covered in each unit as well as the 'plain speak' statements. They can be used to assess prior knowledge and to assess and monitor students understanding. The Assessment Section at the end of each unit provides recommendations for future learning and cross references to the Nelson Numeracy Assessment Kit.
