The book traces the development of the conceptualisation of Crusade through the period 1890-2008. Several case studies are used: the Kensit Crusade, World War One, Crusading Literature, the Jarrow Crusade, the Spanish Civil War, World War Two, Billy Graham, Batman, the Civil Rights movement, modern motion pictures and the attacks of 9/11, alongside the historiographical record of the Crusades produced in the period. Using a conceptual framework these events are examined, the development traced and reasons for change established.
