Notwithstanding the efforts of the numerous travellers who had visited the region, many problems still lay awaiting solution. The geological strue ture of the mountain, the causes of the prevailing climatic conditions, the nature of the snow and ice in equatorial Africa, were all matters of universal interest which yet remained to be determined.
