Author Description

This is the journey of Staff Sergeant Cary Carlson Ward Jr from his Airborne School at Ft. Benning through his Special Forces training and final deployment to Phu Quoc Island in 1966. After a stopover there he and three other of his A-Team were sent to My Phuoc Tay in the Mekong Delta in February 1967. Led by Captain John Thomas Haralson the team kept the Viet Cong at bay with one pitched battle after another until their ultimate rotation back home. Soon after their departure from My Phuoc Tay disaster struck with the lost of eight Green Berets in a two month period. Sergeant Ward was then transferred to Bad Tolz, Germany in October 1967 where he would meet his fate in an automobile wreck.
