This book presents in condensed form material drawn from Neusner's earlier History of the Jews in Babylonia and Aphrahat and Judaism. Neusner believes no era in the history of religion to be more creative than late antiquity in Iran, including Babylonia and Mesopotamia. Here he has collected material from several of the religious groups prominent at the time and framed them into a systematic account.
