Accounts of revivals rarely reveal how these movements unfold in one congregation. Dr. Thomas uncovers revival narratives, testimonies of pastors and laity, reports of healing, and efforts of racial reconciliation, allowing him to develop a case study of the various "outpourings of the Holy Spirit" at St. Giles Presbyterian Church (1937-2025), through evangelical revival (volume 1), charismatic renewal (volume 2), and third wave revival (volume 3). This work also includes the historical context, significant American revival leaders, the spirituality of its pastors, and the renewal organizations that inspired the Richmond, Virginia parish. Volume 2 traces the history of charismatic renewal: first among Reformed evangelicals, such as R. A. Torrey, Catherine Marshall, Louis and Colleen Evans, who each received a distinct empowering of the Holy Spirit; then among Presbyterian Charismatic Communion leaders, such as James Brown, Rodman Williams, and George Bradford, who paved the way for Holy Spirit revival at St. Giles under Earl Morey and Louis Skidmore. While Morey's teachings on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts caused controversy, the revival endured the scrutiny of Presbytery's investigations. Another revival came through YWAM teachers Loren Cunningham and Joy Dawson.
