Most of Europe's housing was built between 1945 and 1975. In only 30 years, the stock was not only renewed, but also significantly expanded. This book is the first to present 54 selected estates and buildings in Zagreb, Cologne, Porto, Lyon and Athens, as well as Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield, to examine how this fundamental renewal process was implemented. Comparison between the projects reveals universal themes, as well as local aspects integrated into the architecture. Thus, this stydy forms the basis for a new assessment of buildings from this period. Contrary to their negative image, they are highly diverse, experimental and locally specific.
