The opening chapters of this work explain the precise nature of cosmic consciousness; we hear of how those who possess it have a closeness with God. The conscious mind travels out of conventional bounds, as the holder experiences profound insight into the world and to matters intellectual, while also putting aside his egoistic concerns and exhibiting qualities of selflessness. We are introduced to a series of important figures who have displayed qualities of cosmic consciousness. The great founders of religion such as Gautama Buddha and Jesus Christ are given chapters. Certain writers and philosophers of the modern era, such as Leo Tolstoy and Emanuel Swedenborg, are also put forward as examples of humans who have attained such a state. Ali Nomad was a pseudonym of Alexander McIvor-Tyndall, a hypnotist, showman and speaker who worked in London. He would variously lecture on the mental capacities of spiritualism in mankind, and would also practice palmistry upon those who attended his talks. He would go on to found the International New Thought Fellowship, which promoted the spiritual outlook of the author and fellow like-minded thinkers.
