For most of us, awkward holiday dinners with the in-laws disappear the moment the divorce papers are signed. Me... well, let's just say I'm not most people. My continued existence on this planet is all it takes to royally piss them off... and a visit from my in laws always comes with a body count. Nothing says dysfunctional quite like a murder and bringing along a host of friends to put me in the ground. Most people expect divorce to play out like a horror story. It's expected. People lose their minds, anger clouds normally level heads and someone always feels cheated. Me? I walked out with the clothes on my back, plenty of money in the bank and the knowledge that our daughter would always be daddy's little girl. Everything else was incidental, and she was welcome to it. To all of you bound to your ex and their extended family through your children, I salute you one and all. My ex-wife's family was unique as they were descendants of one of the most powerful beings on the planet. Our daughter was doubly special as she was my only child and had inherited my own special gifts along with that of her family's birthright. But when you divorce someone, there is always one member of the family that you can't help but like, and Katherine's family was no different. Achelous was the patriarch and he was a man of power, taste and scary as hell. Nevertheless he's a good guy and I was grateful my daughter would get a chance to know him now that she was grown up enough to make her own choices. When a man such as Achelous isn't quite ready for you to leave the family you take a moment and consider your options very carefully. His power is vast, deadly and to say the least compelling. The choices made from this day forward will forever alter the course of events to come. Endless possibilities lie before us and not all of them are good.
