On October 2, 2018, Jamal Khashoggi entered the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul. His fiancee Hatice Cengiz was waiting for him outside, but Jamal never came out. It was Hatice who alerted the authorities that something was wrong. A preliminary investigation revealed that Jamal was murdered inside the consulate, but the details of the incident and the whereabouts of his body still remain unknown. Many news reports and articles have been written on the issue, and the authorities are still working hard to solve the case. In this book, Hatice gives us a glimpse of what Jamal was to her, his family and friends. She helps preserve his memory as a fiancee, father, friend, journalist, and an intellectual. In addition to excerpts from Hatices diary that she began to keep after Jamals passing, there are also accounts of some of his closest friends, which help us to perceive and remember Jamal Khashoggi not only as a criminal case, but as a man who left a great legacy.
