A census of agriculture is a large-scale periodic statistical operation for the collection of quantative information on the structure of a nation's agricultural sector. The programme outlined in this text is intended to assist countries in the conduct of national censuses of agriculture. It provides definitions, concepts, standards and guidelines to help countries generate databases that are internationally comparable. Environment and sustainable development issues are also addressed.
