This book on Proverbs is a tutorial for those seeking wise insight and those who wish to be its teacher. Proverbs 1 establishes the purpose of the entire treatise, wisdom. This overriding theme of the Book of Proverbs, as inspired by the Spirit, addresses the needs of humanity in our present life. The opposite of wisdom is foolishness. The Book of Proverbs describes those who do not desire or seek wisdom as fools. They stumble through life, arriving at poor decisions. Their conclusions impact themselves and the lives and livelihood of those around them. Fools have no moral compass. Without the direction of the Spirit of God, humans make unwise decisions (Psalm 53:1).
