But By the same token, i cannot think of anything better calculated to serve the purposes of the reactionaries, nee-fascists, new right, etc. Than an impression of squabbling among the left people about who did best or worst in, Spain in '36 to '37. Whether Orwell was wounded in the ass or in the self-esteem couldn't matter less: he was the first writer to break the news to political aborigines like myself before World War ll that the Spanish people deserved our help and the help of England and France and did not deserve (it turned out) forty year screwing they got from Franco and his backers.
