Excerpt from Rfd Letter to Radio Farm Directors: December, 1952 A report prepared by the Bureau of Census for usda shows that 145 percent of the total U. S. Potato crop in 19149 was produced by Just farms. One farm out of every three produced some potatoes, but less than one percent of those potato-producing farms produced almost two-thirds of the crop. A 50 percent decline in the number of potato farms took place in the period 1931} to 19149, and it is probable that the trend. Toward fewer farms has continued. The average yield per acre more than doubled between 1935 arri 1950 Jumping from 122 bushels per acre in 1935 to 253 bushels in 1950. Yields were only slightly smaller in 1951 and 1952.
