
Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 17: September 4, 1928 The condition of wheat in Manchuria was causing apprehension due to heavy rainfall, according to Economic Life of August 9, and prices were reported to be rising;° Drought and small wheat craps are reported in some parts of the Chinese Province of Shantung, according to Consul Price at Tsinan. He states further that as a result of poor crops, ban ditry, civil war and other causes famine conditions new prevail in some localities and by winter roughly a sixth of the population may be in want. Similar conditions are also said to prevail in neighboring regions ad joining this Consular district. Shipments to and from.the region are difa ficult ordinarily due to poor transportation facilities, and considerable disorder, the latter having made transportation especially difficuly re cently.
