A hockey player's promise to his best friend becomes a test of will when he's forced into close proximity with his best friend's sister. Thirteen years after leaving his small town for NHL stardom, the protagonist returns to find Jolie Hunter, his best friend's younger sister, is no longer the girl he remembers. Now a captivating woman, she represents a forbidden desire that clashes with a solemn promise made on prom night to protect her and remain just a friend. Stuck together at his parents' ranch for two weeks, the protagonist struggles to maintain his composure as his feelings shift from platonic to intensely romantic, a struggle complicated by a second, undisclosed promise that could shatter their lives if revealed.

The premise sets up a classic small-town, brother's best friend romance with a forced proximity element. The description indicates a spicy, mature read focusing on the internal conflict of a protective hero bound by promises. The interconnected standalone nature of the series suggests that while this story can be enjoyed on its own, it may feature characters or plot threads from other books within the Starlight Canyon setting. The focus on a hockey player and his best friend's sister points to a narrative that balances romantic tension with the potential for dramatic fallout.
