In the 14th century, a time of great persecution of the Jews, fifteen-year-old Estelle, niece of the castle coffin-maker, is forced to keep her heritage a secret. But when she is tricked into entering a contest to discover the fairest maiden in the land, and marries the King of France, she is soon targeted by the evil Armand-the King's Adviser and the Emperor's spy - who will stop at nothing to expose her.
