Emphasize the practical and interdisciplinary nature of science with these "event-based" modules. Using a combination of reading, writing, and hands-on activities, each uses a real-life event and the research/news stories that accompanied it to make everyday applications of science real for students. Charts, photographs, diagrams, and reprints of newspaper articles help students identify problems these events pose -- as seen through the eyes of various experts who respond to each of them.
