This book, together with a companion volume "Read and Listen", is designed for the GCSE and Standard Grade courses in English. It is aimed at able candidates of 14-16 who are expected to continue the study of English beyond this level. The two books cover the four language modes of reading, writing, listening and talking. This book gives practice in reading, writing and discussion skills, using extracts from fiction, poetry and drama with a leavening of jouralism, oratory and other non-fiction. There is a framework of eight inter-related units all relevant to the general theme of "Ideals".
