Jess and Peaches are Nice Girls. Jess and Peaches are kind to strangers and always want everyone to be happy. They put smiley faces on their homework. They support all the right causes. Jess wants to become a lawyer so she can represent nice, innocent people and make lots of money. Peaches is an environmentalist whose mission is to protect the Great Lakes. Unfortunately, life in the depressing little Rust Belt town of Miami Beach, Michigan can be unkind to Nice Girls. The girls are harassed by a kooky, paranoid conspiracy theorist. A classmate tries to pimp Jess to a repulsive older man. The popular girls at their high school are mean to Peaches for being too intelligent. One girl even tries to beat up Peaches. Worst of all is the unstable, insanely jealous mother of a seventeen year old boy who tries to "eliminate" all potential girlfriends who aren't good enough for her son, including Jess.
