This book includes the 2024 updates for Evaluation and Management (E/M) codes, effective January 1, 2024, including new add-on code G2211. Guidelines are simplified and placed into tables for easier understanding. Each of the components of an E/M code (appropriate history and examination, medical decision making, and time) are described in detail. Decision trees for each element of medical decision making is included to help make selection of a level of MDM easier. Then each category of code (outpatient, inpatient/observation, consultation, critical and intensive care, preventive services, emergency services, nursing facility services, prolonged services, etc.) is described in detail. Decision trees assist in correct coding for critical care services (inpatient and in transport), prolonged services, and other categories of E/M codes. Finally, modifiers used with these codes and a dictionary of terms is included.
