In America, Joe's staunchly Christian-Right parents believe he is in Britain to finish his Theology degree to become a priest: he is not. Meanwhile, Mr Locke is developing a malignant cynicism towards continuing as an American high school teacher. The aftermath of Panic Day amplifies each characters' dilemmas, threatens their lives and ultimately America's survival.
