The objective of MSE is to promote and disseminate innovations in the education of engineers who will be designing and testing the microelectronic systems of the future. While the core mission has not changed, the target applications for microelectronics, design tools, and implementation technologies have diversified tremendously. This can be seen in the range topics addressed in MSE 2007. The proceedings covers transistor level IC and ASIC design, and programmable devices such as FPGAs have increased in prominence. However, even general purpose computing devices can now be used for applications that were once only attainable by means of VLSI design.MSE 2007 presents embedded system design education in which software, custom logic, and re-usable software and hardware must all be integrated. To complement the embedded systems focus, the proceedings looks at homeland security because it is a critical area that demands integration of disparate technologies with microelectronic systems at the core.Contents: Embedded Systems; SoC; Innovative Teaching Methods and Curricula
