This Teacher's Book is part of a package designed for the teaching of English at Key Stage 2. Taking as topics the weather, food, minibeasts and transport, Key Stage 2 includes three Pupil's Books per topic (National Curriculum Levels Three, Four and Five), one Teacher's Book per topic and one set of Copymasters per topic. Part of a series intended to help children put English into context, these courses aim to provide flexible, topic-linked literature and language work. Topics have been chosen for their strong links with other National Curriculum subjects, particularly science, and each book is closely linked to National Curriculum levels, helping teachers monitor children's progress through the various Levels of Attainment. Each topic covers the required National Curriculum Attainment Targets for English at each level. Activities in Attainment Targets One to Three, "Speaking and Listening", "Reading and Writing", as well as work on knowledge about language, are dealt with thoroughly. Links are made to Attainment Targets 4-5 "Spelling and Handwriting" where possible. Each Teacher's Book contains general background notes, photocopiable grids showing National Curriculum Attainment Target coverage and references to further reading related to the topic. Also included are page-by-page notes of open-ended work, as recommended in National Curriculum Programmes of Study. Photocopiable record-keeping and assessment material is incorporated, as are miniature pages from the Pupil's Books to aid easy reference. This Teacher's Book is devoted to the topic of food.
This resource provides a structured pedagogical framework for teaching English at Key Stage 2 by integrating language acquisition with the thematic study of food. The authors, Avril Barton, Peter Brinton, and Sue Palmer, utilize the National Curriculum standards to create a comprehensive system that links literacy development with cross-curricular subjects like science. The material is designed to facilitate teacher assessment and student progress tracking across three distinct levels of attainment.
