This guide aims to provide comprehensive reviews and listings for a vast number of films, serving as an authoritative resource for movie information.

As a yearly publication from a respected industry source, the Variety Movie Guide is expected to be a reliable and comprehensive reference for film enthusiasts and professionals alike. Its extensive listings and critical reviews provide a valuable snapshot of cinema from the perspective of industry experts. The 1999 edition would have offered an updated look at films released up to that point, serving as a key resource for understanding the cinematic landscape of the late 20th century. Its authority stems from Variety's long-standing reputation in film journalism.
