A very pleasant book, Mama Carmen's Stories is a collection of short stories that reflect the author's thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Carmen Mata was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, where many of her stories took place. She then moved to New York City where she currently lives and where her stories continued to unfold. The author's upbringing and experiences have shaped and inspired her as a person and as a writer. Throughout the years, she collected so many experiences with her family, friends, and in her life as an educator and writer. The author turned these memories into some of the most delightful stories. To complement her lively persona, Carmen Mata has also illustrated some of these stories with original drawings done by her and her grandchildren. Anyone with a similar sense of humor or background, such as that of an immigrant, can and may relate to and enjoy Mama Carmen's Stories.
