From Library Journal Both directories provide basically the same information about state governments: brief demographic, political, and budget data; elected officials of the executive and legislative branches with their party affiliations, districts, and office contact information (phone, FAX, address); legislative committees and their staffs; executive-branch agencies, departments, boards, and offices with key appointees, titles, and office contact information. Both works gather information through questionnaires and contracts with state officials, and both include American Samoa, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The three Leadership Directories differ slightly from one another in their arrangement. Volume 1 lists information on the executive, judiciary, and legislative officials within an alphabetical arrangement of states. Legislative officers, standing committees, and agencies in Volume 2 are arranged alphabetically by state, but those serving on selected committees and administering specific functions are first listed under topic (e.g., agriculture). Volume 3 follows the topical format in listing state administrative officials, including major elected officials also found in the first volume. Tables of contents for each volume provide easy access. The State Staff Directory is purchased by annual subscription, covering three yearly updates. It is arranged alphabetically by state; within each state entry one first finds executive-branch elected officials (with photos), appointees with their staffs, and contact information; then executive agencies listed alphabetically with staff; and, finally, the legislative branch, including photos of the chambers' two leaders and an alphabetical roster of legislators with brief biographical information, including committee appointments.
