Dave Eagle FRAS, astrophotographer, author and astronomy tutor has been running successful astronomical workshops and outreach for many years. Due to demand from students he has now started to covert the contents of his tutorials into handy guides. Step-by-step this 43 page guide shows you how to take and process solar images. Suggestions for equipment, taking images using a monochrome Webcam and processing the resulting avi file using various pieces of software, most of it available for free. These include Sharpcap, Autostakkert!, Registax and Photoshop (although the latter can be performed with other image processing packages). The steps shown here are primarily Hydrogen Alpha images, but the techniques shown are equally effective using white-light imaging.
