The relationship between formal and non-formal learning is at the core of strategies for lifelong learning. This book examines recent developments in formal education; innovations to promote non-formal learning in the workplace as well as in social, cultural and family settings; and the policy implications involved in linking formal and non-formal learning. This comprehensive approach, favouring transversal and more transparent and integrated policies, is illustrated with examples from European and transition countries.
