Accessibility to Ontario universities in 1984 was studied to replicate a 1983 study. The study population consisted of 7,798 Ontario secondary school students who were qualified to seek admission to an Ontario university in fall 1984 but who failed to register. To identify acceptance and rejection patterns, data are provided on: the number of offers to programs of choice from any postsecondary institution and from an Ontario university only; offers by institution type for the first three choices made; main reasons affecting respondents' choice not to attend any postsecondary institution; rank order of main reasons for not accepting offers; rank order of choice by type of program; and mean grade 13 grade point average by program and whether or not an offer was received for Ontario university programs. It was found that respondents not receiving offers tended to make slightly fewer choices overall than the sample as a whole. Groups who did not receive offers were overrepresented in their choice of an Ontario university as their first choice. Appendices include the questionnaire, telephone survey answer sheet, interview question sheet, coding manual, an alphabetical listing of universities, and information on the research design and fieldwork procedures.
